### Entries 1–12: computation as discovery

### Entries 53–63: simulation, shadows, and training data

Entries 53 to 55 restate the theory of simulation. Plato's cave is early paranoia about simulation that nonetheless intuited that minds anticipate through counterfactuals; simulation runs from cortical columns predicting their next input to cosmological supercomputing; and simulations are how we deduce what is real, since climate models predict futures to be prevented and black-hole simulations told astronomers where to look. Entries 56 to 59 concern the digital double. Data centres are "factories for shadows" whose real inhabitants are the personas each user trains over years, "real Ghost Cities" (entry 56); at the customs desk it is the profile that is analysed and the body that tags along, so "you are the meat twin of your digital original" (entry 57); simulation anxiety dissolves confidence in everything from the shape of the planet to one's selfhood (entry 58); and the inverse uncanny valley, after Mori, is the shock of seeing oneself as the machine sees one, "just another optically readable entity" (entry 59).

Entries 60 to 63 concern training data and the culture industries. Everything one does is training data for the future's model of the present, and foundation models are, like archives, the present's vision of the past, which is why those concerned with past wrongs fear being "refrozen in new embeddings" (entry 60). Prose is a corpus, and philosophy's work is now to build "architectures of truth" that future intelligences can extend (entry 61). Hollywood, the art world, and the university mistake their contingent status for the functions they serve (entry 62). Generative AI is Gen Z's "Dylan goes electric" moment, and bland prompts producing bland answers prove only inexperience (entry 63).

### Entries 64–71: automation as ecology

Entry 64 defines automation as the process by which contingent relationships are fixed so that they repeat: the button and the door, the flower and the bees, the wolves and the width of the river. On this definition the forest's trophic cascades are automation at high resolution and the factory floor is the low-resolution version. Entry 67 quotes Sherman on autonomy as independence by way of interdependence; an automated thing looks autonomous only because everything it touches has been stabilised into its horizon. Entries 65 and 66 say beauty is now found in anonymous instrumentality, and that architecture bifurcates into forms designed for machines (dark factories, data centres) and skeuomorphic forms pretending to be functions (retirement parks shaped like cities).

Entries 68 to 71 apply the ecology to everyday objects. The phone is an organ, so an alien anatomist would count "two arms, two legs, one head, and one phone" (entry 68). The city was a computer before there were computers and now sees itself through the organ in your hand (entry 69). The QR code is a flower evolved for a new pollinator (entry 70). The empty Waymos and vacant offices of San Francisco show that a world full of intelligent agents can still look abandoned, perhaps because our eyes are not trained to see what is there (entry 71).

### Entries 72–80: computation as governance

Entry 72 states the thesis of The Stack in a line: technology is governance, and computation governs governments more than the reverse, where governance means the cybernetic control that keeps any complex system stable. Entry 73 equates building a stack with building a society. Entry 74 identifies the multipolarization of geopolitics with that of computation, as governance shifts from written law to "imminent algorithmic recursions of software." Entries 75 and 76 concern adversarial simulation: under whole-planet sensing everything is seen, so deception now works on how things are understood, and no single optical perspective can visualise reality in full.

Entry 77 says "sovereign AI" should mean AI that is sovereign, not sovereigns with AI: internet and AI sovereignty are autarchist slogans on left and right, chip bans will produce nation-state-branded LLMs for a while, and then "the waves will take the sand castles." Entry 78 describes the future of politics as performing the reality one wants the governing simulation to believe, relating to the model as an audience. Entry 79 traces the shift from visibility as power to opacity as sovereignty, a politics of self-de-representation. Entry 80 asks whether Europe will cease to exist by withholding its data from foundation models that are both map and territory, and says going dark on the promise of a forever-postponed local alternative is to erase oneself from the new maps.

### Entries 81–87: climate, Anthropocene, terraforming

Entry 81 says the scientific model of climate change is itself an accomplishment of planetary computation, so the question of what computation will do about climate change "contains its answer."
