# Self-Depresentation

A polity's deliberate withdrawal from being sensed and modeled — data-privacy law scaled to "a continent's right to be forgotten," producing a "low-resolution society." Bratton's Blurope scenario treats it as the inverse of "seeing like a state": since governance now *is* the capacity to sense and model a society, a state that makes itself illegal to model keeps its symbols and loses its function ("ceremonial parliaments"). Useful as the negative limit of the Hemispherical Stacks thesis: sovereignty defined as rights over data production can be exercised as refusal, but refusal is not a stack.
