# The Double (data-center shadow)

Bratton's everyday case for recursive simulation: each person has multiple digital profiles — "shadows, doubles of you" — housed in data centers ("the primary architecture of our time"), and when one interacts with the Stack it is the double that acts on one's behalf. At the airport gate the system "is evaluating your double… if your shadow passes, then you are allowed to pass." Connects Plato's Cave paranoia to the User layer's point that platforms are "a design of Users," and is the micro-scale of the simulation/governance nexus (climate politics as mobilization against a simulation of the future at the macro scale).
