# Countersimulation

> A working definition written for this wiki from the reading notes; not Antikythera's own wording. From Antikythera Wiki (https://antikythera.wiki/terms/countersimulation), an independent guide to Antikythera's published work.

An agent's adapting and obfuscating its behavior to confound an adversary's simulation of it — camouflage, jamming, decoys, misinformation, strategic leaks. Originates in the 2023 studio's *Planetary Countersimulation* (Barcay et al.) and Bratton's simulation lectures, where the stakes are sovereignty: whoever keeps an accurate picture while degrading others' holds position. Synthetic Counteradaptation nests it inside coevolution: countersimulation adds recursive layers of opacity (your model of my model of you), which is exactly what keeps counteradaptation possible, and the scaffolds that let a simulator act on the world turn simulation/reality into a retroactively blurred distinction.
