# Metabolic Alignment

> A working definition written for this wiki from the reading notes; not Antikythera's own wording. From Antikythera Wiki (https://antikythera.wiki/terms/metabolic-alignment), an independent guide to Antikythera's published work.

Likavčan's name for what a long *L* indexes: a sophont species has matched "the internal organizational patterns of its collective inhabitation of the planet (mediated via technical scaffolds)" to the pace and scale of biospheric processes — scaling some activities up (carbon drawdown), others down (deforestation). It is the bridge between intraspecies *history* and interspecies *evolution*: a species leveling up "its historical game to the evolutionary scale." In §7 it is radicalised into the technosphere becoming metabolically *isomorphic* with the biosphere, which is why mature civilisations produce no distinguishable technosignatures. Close kin to Bratton's "viable planetarity."
