# Societal Time Literacy

> A working definition written for this wiki from the reading notes; not Antikythera's own wording. From Antikythera Wiki (https://antikythera.wiki/terms/societal-time-literacy), an independent guide to Antikythera's published work.

Vincent Ialenti's term (*Deep Time Reckoning*, 2020), taken up by Chronoseed as its normative frame: the deliberate expansion of human intellectual horizons forward and backward across time, via deep-time responsibility, the history of ideas, long-run institutional planning and parallel simulation of events. Prescriptive where Moynihan's **temporal orientation** [J] is descriptive — one asks where a civilization *thinks* "now" sits, the other says it should learn to think further in both directions. The paper's evidence for its urgency is that transmitting a one-line nuclear warning across 241,000 years has taken forty years, a dedicated field (nuclear semiotics), and no settled answer.
