# Pandemonium Architecture

Oliver Selfridge's 1959 model of pattern recognition: many parallel *daemons* (feature → cognitive → decision tiers) shout their findings and a decision daemon picks the winner. Minimum Viable Interiority borrows it as an NPC cognitive architecture — multiple models coexisting inside one agent, reconciled by a *selector daemon* — in the lineage of Minsky's society of mind and Hawkins's thousand brains, and prefers it to transformers because its component roles are designed and hence interpretable. The paper's twist is recursion: pandemonia nested as layers of functional closure, 2^λ−1 daemons per agent, with selection at each level "interiorizing" the agent into a self-model (Gazzaniga's interpreter). Same structural intuition as Agüera y Arcas's cortex-as-colony, but engineered rather than evolved.
