# Metis (metered intelligence)

> A working definition written for this wiki from the reading notes; not Antikythera's own wording. From Antikythera Wiki (https://antikythera.wiki/terms/metis-metered-intelligence), an independent guide to Antikythera's published work.

[Chor Pharn Lee](https://antikythera.wiki/people/chor-pharn-lee)'s unit in Garden Empires: "standardized units of cognitive capacity that can be deployed, traded, and optimized," minted as tokens by intelligence pools (Chinese provinces for sky-river management, the Gulf for desalination, US "pods" for geoengineering) and exchanged against digital currencies and the digital twins of forests and oceans. The same essay then invokes tacit knowledge (Greek *mētis*) to explain why the "gosplan dream" stays incomputable — so the term names both computable intelligence-as-resource and the incomputable remainder. Compare *Planetary Computation Unit*; Emerald Coin and resource credits elsewhere in the collection.
