# Chronoceptual Learnability

> A working definition written for this wiki from the reading notes; not Antikythera's own wording. From Antikythera Wiki (https://antikythera.wiki/terms/chronoceptual-learnability), an independent guide to Antikythera's published work.

*Chronoception* is the rate at which an actor perceives change per unit time (metabolically grounded, subjective but measurable); *characteristic time* is the rate at which its environment actually changes. Plotting one against the other gives five regions: time-averaging (environment far faster — electricity as blur) and timescale separation (far slower — geology as frozen) form a *temporal filter* that blocks interaction outright; aliasing and myopia are subtler distortions; between them lies the **zone of learnability**, where the rates align closely enough for accurate perception and responsive exchange, and which evolution selects for. The paper's central claim is that computation (capture, time-lapse, simulation) *expands* this zone rather than merely accelerating us — it brings alien timescales into perceptual range.
