Russian-Ukrainian geochemist (1863–1945) who developed the concepts of the biosphere and the noösphere. The journal republished his essay *The Transition from the Biosphere to the Noösphere* (presented with GIGA) as the historical ancestor of Bratton's *The Noocene* and Moynihan's *Baby Noosphere*.
